I have just turned 17 and have my provincial Irish license. I live in the ROI. Would it be possible to do an intensive driving course in N.I and then if I pass the test at the end convert the license back to an Irish one? The reason I want to do this is to avoid the 6 month learner permit hold time for the driving test as I need my full license for work.Would this work? thanks

You'll need to apply for a UK learner's permit. Not sure if you can do that if you're non resident. Just be aware that the UK test covers more manoeuvres than the Irish test.

I believe you can do this but Brexit (pending end of this year) may affect the ability to convert UK licences. So by the time you sit a UK test and the time the license arrives and the length of time required to send the license to be converted, the UK may leave with a no deal brexit. So I'd be cautious.

Plus you need a UK address to get a provisional and the rest. UK test is generally more of a ballache from personal experience.

    Good luck

It's much harder test. Do it in the south where your based.
