    can someone tell me how the attached windy.com works. Notice the map is reddish until it comes over Ireland then it is greenish. Does that mean the wind is less over land?

    It's the speed of the wind in knots. On the bottom right of the screen you will see the scale.

    Yes, it's pretty much unobstructed over the sea. Land tends to disrupt and slow it down. Generalising of course.
