If I take a spur off a double socket on the ring main and blank off the original, never to be used. Can I then spur a single socket off the spur.

Are you sure it is a ring main circuit? these are not very common in ireland. What size MCB is feeding the circuit?

If it is a ring main you are better of extending the ring to include the new sockets.

House is 20 years old. Just assumed it was a ring main. Asking for a relative. I'll check the fuse when I call to her.

Unfused spurs are no longer permitted (except in the north).
