LC Subject Choice Business V's Computer Science

Looking for advice for my son who is going into 5th year...

    Current subjects he chose are
English, Irish, Maths, French, Technology, Business, Ag Science & LCVP.

Only new subjects from Junior Cycle are Ag Science & LCVP.

Computer Science is a new subject being offered in his school this year & at the subject choice meeting I asked about it but teachers hosting the meeting had very little information on it. My son had hoped to be able to find out more in school and possibly get to do a taster of computer science as in TY but then lockdown came and we all know how that ended up... At that meeting they did say that students could change their subject choice up to end of September if class sizes allowed.

Computer Science has been playing on his mind the last few weeks & he asked me to contact the school to find out which band Computer Science is in so that he would know which subject he would have to drop.

The school rang me yesterday to say that yes, he can change to Computer Science but he would have to drop Business (don't know why but had it in my head that it would be technology he would have to drop).

He has always found Maths hard & Business has been one of his favourite & best subjects for JC. So he doesn't know what to do as we have no information on Computer Science. I couldn't see him being spending hours study to be honest. In the JC he got a Merit in Common Business and a C in Honours Technology (with only doing homework & little to no studying).

I suggested he change to Computer Science & if he doesn't like it after a few weeks change back to Business - I asked the school if this would be possible and they said yes as there is room in both classes.

Does anyone have any information on Computer Science?

He's big into PC gaming & streaming & has his own custom built PC for which he selected the components & at the minute is interested in doing something with computers in college - possibly building PC's as opposed to programming.

    Advice appreciated.

    TIA

Page 23 onwards would be most relevant.

I know it's a draft, but the real thing won't be that far removed from it.

Have a read through the syllabus and get him to do the same.

Note: being into gaming has absolutely nothing to do with computer science. There are hoards of students who enrol in third level courses in computer science every year who are into gaming but do not like programming etc.

If Business has been one of his favourite and best subjects for JC, I think he should stick with Business for LC.
Computer Science has a lot more overlap with maths than with gaming.
