Looking at buying at 8x5 trailer with sheep decks, which brand would be best to consider and what sort of price range is on these trailers new?

I have an Ivor Williams 8x5, fantastic trailer. I think it was about 4.5k new around 5 years ago.

Do they have a very short drawbar?

No, but they can't be any worse than anything with underslung wheels.
IW quality has gone down and they rattle a lot too.

A friend of mine was taken ill at a sale a good few years back. He had about 25 ewes. bought. I went to bring them home along with his car and nugent trailer which was also there.

The car was a fresh low mileage 2 ltr. mondeo.

I thought the nugent was terrible and didn't feel safe at above 60kph,
It seemed to be always fighting the car compared to my old williams it was a poke

Do you have the trailer licence, DJ? You'll need the E licence onto your B if you plan to carry more than 2 or 3 sheep in a trailer with a car. Tractor is fine, though.

Just add to the list - I've just seen this crowd and from a distance it looks impressive - seems they have taken over Hudson Trailers

As far as I know, they don't do an 8x5. They do look good though....

I have a IW 12 x 6ft 6 with wheels underneath and never had an issue with it.

actually I sold one with van wheels to buy the ones underneath. More space in trailer , just most lads cant reverse them as they are 12-16inch wider

And the wheels are interchangeable between that trailer, my 16ft and plant trailer. so never stuck as have a spare thrown into the back of the jeep

Reversing isn't the problem. They have stability problems. IW dealer here steered us away from one when we went to buy.
The tri-axle versions can push you on in a corner if not careful - just don't like cornering.

It won't be a concern for the Op as he/she is looking for an 8ft.

The 16ft trailer here is tri axle and never had an issue cornering . I know what you mean with the push

End of the day , max legal speed is 80kph if road conditions allow.

Often had 6/7 good heifers in my trailer, and no issues once the internal dividing gate is closed correctly

They don't like turning on concrete with weight on, then tyres don't last pissing length and aren't cheap

ye about 55/60e incl vat per tyre alright and when they puncture at 70-90psi they are normally ruined
