A nursing home in Co Wexford has tonight confirmed it has found a case of coronavirus.

While it is not known whether the case involves a member of staff or a resident, Kerlogue nursing home said that "all necessary precautions are being taken".

The facility added in a Facebook statement: "Kerlogue nursing home has unfortunately 1 confirmed case of COVID 19.

"We have engaged with the HSE and relevant authorities to implement appropriate measures, to provide medical care to all our residents.

"We are engaging with health officials with regard to comprehensive contact tracing and all necessary precautions are being taken.

"We are collectively focused on providing residents in our nursing home with the best possible care and protecting them from COVID-19.

We take this opportunity to thank all our staff who are attending for duty and our extended community, for their fantastic commitment and dedication to KNH.

We ask the media to respect the privacy of our residents, staff and families during this difficult time

I am really glad they came out and told us. I'm glad they are being transparent about it.

I don't need to know the exact location for each positive, but would like to know the general area. Knowing that there is a positive less then a KM from where I live makes me much more aware and cautious, then if I thought it was in New Ross or if I don't know where it is.

Well I am glad they told us, but they also could have told us more information about this place, such as, is it a staff member or a patient?

And I agree, we need to be told exactly where the cases are. Like I live in Wexford Town and when I hear cases I don't know if that's rosslare or all the way up in Gorey. There needs to be more information as to where the cases are.

Why do you need to know this? If cases are from the other end of the county, do you think you are free to relax personal safety protocols?

If you take care of your own situation, there is little chance of catching this terrible virus
