Most laptops have a WiFi adaptor built in with big antennae going up the sides of the screen. That adaptor would likely make your WiFi significantly slower unless your internal WiFi adaptor was broken.

yes don't buy that unless you need it

also if your home router uses 5Ghz frequency then that ebay dongle item won't work as it's not dual band

    OK. You forced me.
I'm only replying because I should normally be in Torreviega myself at this time. Sadly, that's not to be for the foreseeable future.

It depends on how much pc assembly/disassembly knowledge you have.
This video at around 2:25 shows the WLAN card being removed. If you are comfortable with it, you can replace with a similar form factor Intel WLAN card and then install the relevant drivers if necessary.

    https://youtu.be/ub6dyiqyuCc

If no experience then an external WiFi option may be better. Cheaper is not necessarily best and ebay isn't necessarily best either.

In terms of low cost but also decent reviews, check out this USB one on Amazon

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08D3G6KK2/ref=cm_sw_r_em_apa_i_SfhpFbT4WBYTB

€20 should get you up & running by mid next week.
Even better if you have Amazon Prime for free delivery.

It may even provide you with a superior WiFi signal due to the external antennae.

This assumes that you have installed all necessary latest drivers, tested on 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands separately and ruled out a router issue.

That sounds decent enough. If other devices (like phones, xboxes etc) don't have a problem with it then it should be OK.
If you are in the general D15 area, i may have a netgear Dongle sitting about. That may fix your problem.

Incidentally, I bought it in Torrevieja (Punta P) to help me gain WiFi access when I had none (ahem, cough).

You're welcome to it if I can find it.

Your post is a bit vague. How close to the router is it? Are you using 2.4ghz or 5ghz.

I'm right beside router ts on 2.4 how do I change

you don't need to change it.

    2.4Ghz goes further than 5.8Ghz

as said if phones / other devices are working fine with wifi then your wifi router is ok, it's the wifi in the laptop that's the issue.

something like this will do fine if other devices are picking up the signal

    https://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/3389780/Trail/searchtext%3EWIFI+USB.htm

something with the antennas is not required imo unless you have problems on other devices also. antennas sticking out may be awkward also

I would just buy a wifi adaptor - this one is dual band :
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B076LW8RX5/ref=pe_3187911_185740111_TE_item

I bought it last year when the wifi in my laptop went - very neat and unobtrusive, works perfectly.

Why not try getting the wifi in your laptop to link up to another device namely your phone? That way you would find out if it is or is not working.

Taking a laptop apart is a delicate but tricky business. It's not for the faint of heart. A desktop computer is much easier to disassemble and re-assemble

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

if a phone or other works fine with the wifi then it's the laptop where the problem lies

    so your options are

    1. buy a wifi adapter and give up a usb port

    2. get in touch with dell for the laptop to be taken away for repair. this could take a good period of time without the laptop and they will wipe your hard-drive / data

or you could try 3. buy the wifi adapter and contact Dell to try to get a partial refund (e.g. €50) but I'm not sure if dell do partial refunds - probably not

Got the Argos Wifi Adapter had same issues then got it working , stopped again , i noticed Nord Vpn Connecting unconnecting a lot ,

Does Nord vpn have issues with wifi cards im using the Tp link Ac600, because since i disabled Nord Vpn Wifi is working not disconnecting ?

you should have mentioned that you're using a VPN earlier

in fairness, it is a fairly obvious test to turn the VPN off earlier to test wifi compared to having it on

VPN's can cause problems for various reasons

    e.g. https://www.reddit.com/r/nordvpn/comments/g5rfn3/nordvpn_disconnecting_my_wifi_iphone_xr/

when i connected the wifi adapter at first it took a while, to set up ,

but i think it was connecting to old network, kept disconnecting again

its only now since im going through that adapter network thats its working but even when i disabled vpn at first it was still disconnecting,

but it seems to be working now even with vpn on fingers crossed

Hi folks just wondering what these are used for is this similar

they are old (pre 4G) mobile broadband modems for picking up a mobile data signal (through sim card)

    won't solve your wifi problem

    that's 4G so better

Not sure why you are going the 4G Sim card route.

If you have your phone connected to your home wifi you can USB tether and use this.

Anyway this is more than likely software related or windows issues. I've seen this issue before.
The steps I would try are:

    1) Make sure you have windows update on and your laptop is currently up to date.
    2) Run MalwareBytes Anti Malware and see if any issues.
    3) Make sure that "Power saving" is not turned on for your Wifi card. Google this if you don't know how to check.
    4) Download the newest up to date drivers from the Dell website. Go to device manager and delete your wifi card. Reboot your laptop and install the newest drivers.
    5) Make sure only one wifi device is shown in device manager. If there is extra delete them.
    6) Dell also have some options in the new laptops in the bios for powersaving for Wifi. Make sure that this is turned off.

Doing all of the above should fix your wifi issue. Also if its a brand new laptop from Laptop from Dell I would download the Windows 10 ISO from microsoft site and reinstall windows and download all the dell drivers for your laptop.

I'd never use a stock image from Dell or from any other manufacturer in fact.

That is terrible advice. See my previous post. Its definitely a Windows issue.

Actually the Wifi Card Resolved the Issue,

Glasso's Advice Was Actually Brilliant to be honest, As were the other people here who gave the Advice and Helped A Novice like Me, i was only asking about that Modem that's all.

I was in touch with Dell as this is under Warranty, i did all of this with them but the issue was still there,

I also found Dell quite abrupt Move you on then, Expect you to know everything Get you to sort out the Issue as they said it was Now A Software problem, Oh and they Charge to Fix that.

Most people here help people Don't have there Nose in the Sky , and understand not everybody is a Computer Brain.
