Rumours are trickling out about an incentivised early retirement package for Civil Servants. It'll be interesting to see what offers will be made.

It's the bally ballyness of it that makes it all seem so bally bally.

Care to share any more detail on this? Where did you hear of these trickling rumours?

If true, and if the terms are good, I'd say there would be good deal of interest in a package.

Definitely think there will be a lot of interest in this. My last office, there were a good few people with the crystal bowls and 40 years service, just waiting for a couple more years.

A lot of staff were recruited between 79-81, think there will be a good few going after the next and last pay restoration in October.

If a good package is offered a few more might go too!

Didn't they do this a few years ago or was that just the HSE. I remember some of the staff here took it. It had to be agreed with Management though so you didn't have 20 Nurses going at the same time etc.

AFAIK there was a package around the time of the crash.

Think there was an early retirement package and a career break package. I wasn't long in the door at the time, got in and told to close the door behind me, lol

Do you think this would be aimed at retirement only, or would there be a redundancy scheme for younger civil servants?

I doubt it would be too generous of a package anyway. I have 30 years done next year and I would LOVE to take early retirement and start a new chapter of my life.

There is due to quite a significant number if retirements during the next few years so I'd be surprised if they offer a decent pay for people to retire early.

The last early retirement package was in 2009. Anyone over the age of 50 could avail of it pension based on number of years service & 10% of your lump sum. Balance to be paid at age 60 or 65.

It's the bally ballyness of it that makes it all seem so bally bally.

10% of your lump sum would be hardly anything

Yep I remember a few in our place looked into it. Some took it and some said it wasn't worth their while and stuck it out.
