    Hi,

I'm looking at getting a car from a dealer up north, I just got the reg to check some insurance details and ran it through a few car-check website. It's a 2016 Mazda and it's saying it failed an MOT back in November for:

Offside Rear Coil spring fractured or broken (5.3.1 (b) (i)),

Then looks like it passed the next day. It also says it hasn't been taxed since 01 Nov 2019.

Does this seem off or is it just a small thing?

    Cheers

On the coil suspension that could happen so wouldn't put me off if fixed....

Nothing to see there, the coil spring was broken and failed it’s MOT, it then got replaced and passed the following day.

Regarding the tax, It’s likely the car was on a three year lease, given back to the leasing company, probably sat around for a while because of COVID, then went through auction, then made its way to N.I, and possibly been on their forecourt for a while, so I wouldn’t let it put you off the car. It wasn’t declared off the road?

Honestly if it's diesel run. Run quite fast....

Out of curiosity, why so? It's petrol so it doesn't really matter, just curious why Diesel would be a warning flag here? Because we were looking at diesels and ended up ruling them out.

Because some of their diesels have a bit of a reputation.

The 1.5 diesel is said to be ok but there’s plenty info out there on the 2.0 and 2.2 engines needing replacement.

A poster on here had to remove their thread as it's gone legal, let's say that Mazda seem to believe an oil change 3 times in less the 5k km is acceptable and that diesel in the oil is grand as it's attempting regen etc....

I would only drive one if it were free or a rental... I wouldn't have any faith in one....

Much better and reliable models and makes out there....

If it's from mainland Uk it's probably got a lot of rust on all the undercarriage components. That may be why the coil spring fractured or they hit a kerb or ramp very hard. I'm looking at a lot of UK Imports recently and they all have very bad rust compared to an Irish car the same age. It's putting me off the idea of buying one.

Try buy from South if possible.
