Club Championships 2020

    Annual county championship thread!

So, it's a weird season. Most county championships are due to be finished before the intercounty championships start. Some are almost completed already. And there have been big changes made to most championships' structures due to the short window. Crowds are, for the moment, limited to less than 200 (players, coaches, officials and spectators need to be less than 200) so most counties and/or clubs have been forced to embrace technology and stream as many games as possible.
Also, there will be no provincial club championships at any grade due to Covid.

In the Meath SFC, the number of teams had already been reduced to 16 with the plan to have four groups of four teams with the top 2 qualifying for the quarter finals and the bottom 2 progressing to a relegation playoff. However, this was changed to the top team in each group progressing to the semi finals and the bottom team in each group going into the relegation playoff.

Round 2 was played at the weekend. Summerhill and Gaeil Colmcille (Kells) have already qualified for the semi finals with one game remaining having beaten their nearest rivals Wolfe Tones and Dunboyne respectively yesterday. In their groups, Curraha and Dunshaughlin are also guaranteed to be in a relegation playoff meaning that those two groups' final games are dead rubbers.
Ratoath and Donaghmore/Ashbourne are in pole position in the other two groups but aren't guaranteed a semi final place yet. There was a huge shock in Ratoath's group as Simonstown Gaels (winners in 2016 and 2017) were beaten by Nobber (last year's IFC champions) at the weekend. Nobber lost by 24 points to reigning champions Ratoath in round 1.

There's a chance that there'll be a big team relegated this season. Dunshaughlin are already in the playoff (they won the SFC three times in a row from 2000 - 2002 and won Leinster in 2002) while both Navan O'Mahony's (20 titles in total) and Skryne (13 titles and playing in the senior championship since 1933) are bottom of their groups with one game remaining.

The SHC has only had one round played with reigning champions Kildalkey beating closest rivals Kiltale by two points meaning they're likely to be favourites to retain their title.

more or less all county's will have their championships over by the end of September ?

If the IC gets cancelled then they should run the club Provincial/All Irelands in its place

Overall across the country in both codes a good % of the experienced teams won the championships but we had a few shocks like in Tipp Hurling and Tyrone football

My own club, Ratoath, are looking to be only the third team in history to do the Meath senior football and hurling double.
They play Gaeil Colmcille in the football final on Sunday (live on TG4). Gaeil Colmcille haven't won a SFC title since 1991.
They'll play Trim in the hurling final the following weekend. We haven't been in a senior hurling final since we last won it in 1969. Trim haven't won the senior hurling title since 2001 but have been in the final as recently as 2018. Trim are also in the Intermediate football final on Saturday.

We're odds on to win both so I'm bricking it.
