Importing a car to Ireland

I have been living in Northern Ireland for 18 months and have owned a car there for the same amount of time. I am now moving home will I be required to pay import tax on my car when I come home from Northern Ireland? As if I do, I'll probably want just to sell it here before I go and buy an Irish car when I get home

Simple answer - no, you won't have to pay import duty

BUT make sure all your information is correct.

Make sure you meet *all* the conditions for the Transfer of Residence exemption.

What are the conditions, I've googled it but I can't find anything?

18 months is a pretty short period in which to established that you have moved your “normal residence” from Ireland to NI. That would be especially so if you loved for a fixed term employment and left a family and family home behind. Be careful to assess your qualification for the ToR exemption before assuming that it will be available. This is particularly important if your car has a high NOx value.
