Your old employer will have to update on the system that you left and new employer needs to add you to their payroll. If you have issues you can email revenue with details of new employment (their tax number) and inform them when you left your previous job. I'm not sure if their paye phone lines are back working so email is your best bet atm.

They tend to resolve the issue fairly quickly once you contact them so it depends when your employer is processing wages.

I just tried to register my new job on revenues website and it won’t leave me do so because it says the tax reg number is invalid, could this be due to me not ceasing my old job?

I don't think it's up to you to register your new employment. I could be wrong but I would think that is a function of your new employer.

Can your new employer see your old job (or your tax record from it), if you remove the job from revenue.ie?

Yeah I am not sure whether I should do it myself or not

Isn't it for the employer to cease the job?.

You can add new employment and transfer all credits to the new job.

You shouldn't need to do anything yourself. Your old employer "ceases" your old job (and it's in their interest to do so cos they won't be liable for PRSI then) and your new employer needs to register you.

And that's fine but often the previous employer doesn't cease the job in time. (Could be completely unintentional. It happened to me that I forgot to tick the emplyee is leaving option before updating wages with revenue. We pay weekly so it was rectified next week but if you are paid monthly it could be a month before someone notices. Different companies also have different pay periods and so on.) I had quite a few employees whose details were not updated in time and they contacted revenue and they moved the credits to new job. They usually put them on week one and once the old employer updates revenue they are moved to comulative tax.

There are no issues contacting revenue about that and you avoid being on emergency tax.

Some old employers would pay me my last paycheque, and then the following month pay me for my holidays that I didn't take. And once all paid out, they'd post the P45. So in this case, I wonder if the last lump of pay hasn't gone through, thus they haven't marked her as having left them, with Revenue.

Sounds like the tax number of your new job is incorrect.

P45 is gone from 2019. Everything is updated very easily electronically and new employer receives tax details very quickly now and directly from revenue.

Op as stated you don't have to do anything but give your pps no. to new employer but if your previous employer still has you on the books you might be on emergency tax at the beginning. It also seems you have wrong tax no. for new employer. Make sure it's tax reg no. and not company reg. no. If you got it on cro website it's the wrong one.
