What do I do about Ryanair flights to Portugal

Apologies, if this is answered elsewhere, but the information and policies seem to be changing constantly.

I have Ryanair flights to Portugal for later this month, which i booked back in January, before any of this Covid thing.

One leg of the flight was cancelled back in June, so I rebooked on June 13th for another flight the same day.

So obviously I can't fly on them, but when I try to reschedule either of them, Ryanair are asking for hefty flight change fees, despite multiple articles I find saying Ryanair are allowing you to change flights to another date in 2020 for free.

Another issue I'm facing, is that my Travel insurance provider refused to renew my policy when it expired in May. So I'm currently without travel insurance. I assume a new policy wouldn't cover bookings I'd made in the past. But would I be able to claim on my previous policy seeing as it was in place, when I booked the flights?
