I get why alcohol and gambling companies are required to do it but really isn't it a waste of time. Thankfully most people can drink and/or gamble responsibly. Those that can't ain't going to be put on the straight and narrow by an ad telling them to be responsible. If companies don't already do it they should be required to put funds aside for education around addiction and possibly treatment centres.

I think they should put up warnings but I believe most people give up addictions because they personally just get sick of it themselves.

Addiction to something is obviously not an enjoyable thing once it gets hold. People lose relationships, money etc over it. They are not pleasant situations to be in. If someone truly wants to give up, it's usually because they've had a 'wake up' call and realise there are better more enjoyable ways to live their life. That imo is when someone truly wants to give an addiction up and is more successful in succeeding.

Doesn't take away the fact that some people will pay heed to warnings before they get to a place of addiction so these messages can also be perceived as a warning or a lesson or education to others perhaps about to choose that path. That could be their 'wake up' call ie 'i don't want to be that guy.'

I found an alternative to gambling.
    Facebook raffles for cars!
No annoying warnings and it's not really gambling, it's only a raffle.

But there's no skill in that.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

Valid point but even though I'm spending as much as before it has cured my addiction and the value of that can't be underestimated.

Funny how it's always a relative of the person who wins.

I'm a relative of someone, only a matter of time.

I go in to Paddy Power and spend 10 euro on a bet predicting the result of a future event and I am a gambler.

I go in to the supermarket and spend 10 euro on a Lottery ticket predicting the result of a future event and I'm "playing a game"

It's just governments trying to be seen to do the right thing. No pisshead or problem gambler I've ever known would have paid any attention to those warnings.
