    Hi everyone,

My background is that I have a LLB from a reputable Irish uni and have finished my FE1's. Did well in both. I want to train as a solicitor but don't have a contract lined up. I have some legal experience.

My question is: is it worth doing an LLM? Is it really seen as advantageous or would I be better doing paid/unpaid work experience?

    All opinions welcome.

    Thanks

If you're asking if the LLM is going to confer you with a certain advantage over other candidates when looking for a TC, the answer is no. The only exception is if you're doing an LLM with one of the good UK law schools, like LSE, UCL, Kings College, etc.

No it’s not worth it. I did one after my BCL but only because it was 2010-2011 and in the middle of recession. It was either go to Australia for the year or do an LLM. It was the last year it was covered under the grant so didn’t cost me much. But wouldn’t have paid for it.

What did u decide in the end? I would love more opinions about taking an LLM. It’s nearly decision time for me on Environmental Law in UCC. I’m worried about that much of it will be delivered online like all lectures now. A lot of money too.
