Looking to change my 2004 car as as it will fail NCT due to damaged windscreen among other issues which would be more expensive than car is worth. Looking at the newer model Ford Focus that came out late in 2012 onwards 1.6 diesel. Any opinions on this regarding reliability or known issues or is there better cars in this. range that I should be looking at.

That PSA engine is far from being bullet proof but they did sell alot of them. They were replaced by a newer 1.5 litre in mid 2015 which is a bit better. I'd look at a similar vintage Renault Megane 1.5dci too.

Early Focus didn’t get a reasonable interior until they facelifted it in 2014 or so. As above, I’d put more faith in the 1.5 engine than the older 1.6.
