IMEI problem

So, my Pixel 4 XL has developed a fault, some three weeks after buying it from CEX.
THe display has a 2mm high line of grey/colour across the display, wasn't dropped or bent, just appeared this evening.

So, contacted Google, and my IMEI number isn't showing up anywhere except as "invalid".

My phone works fine, it's on the Three network and wouldn't be if the IMEI number was truly invalid, but nevertheless Google can't find it anywhere and won't send me a replacement phone without the original proof of purchase, which I don't have...

Any ideas what on earth is up with the IMEI?

Stolen device that had the ESN/IMEI changed before being dropped to CEX?

Does the IMEI displayed when you *#06# match the one shown in device info screen?

Have you checked the IMEI on any of the blacklist sites just to be certain?

It all matches, the sim tray, the box, the display when I type those digits.
    It's all very odd

Well with the original box matching the device that paints it in more a F-up on Google's side light than it does a stolen device.

Odd that their database isn't showing the number, but that could point to support only looking at an EMEA database and it's being an imported device maybe?

Surely a photo of the device info screen and the box info confirming both matching fired off to the Google rep you are dealing with is the easiest way to resolve?

Did exactly that with their representative online, still no joy, the IMEI is invalid.
    Utterly insane.

So, now I have to hope that CEXs warranty is worth the paper it's written on.
Bringing it back and hoping for a replacement.

    That is lunacy!
Hopefully CEX sort it out and set you right.

Have you no proof from CEX that you bought it from them only 3 weeks ago?
They should be able to send you copies of invoices etc...

Apparently once bought with your membership number they retain a record of the transaction, so that should be fine.
I put the receipt somewhere safe.... Feck...

Check your email they may have sent an email receipt also when trading a phone usually the IMEI is used to book the phone in for test I'm also betting this particular phone would be very new to their system so not a high amount would have been bought in go back specifically to the branch you bought it in as it's easier to trace the transaction that way.

Also CeX have a good 24 month warranty I returned items bought in the UK to a Dublin branch without any hassle

Looks like Google are going to, at least, take the phone in and give it a once over, to see what the problem is.
In some cases they will send me a replacement phone immediately, but I'm not banking on that.
I just have to root out the CEX receipt and let them know.
They'll hopefully get to the bottom of the IMEI issue as well!

Just to update everyone, I went to CEX who were happy to provide a copy of the receipt, which I then forwarded to Google.

Now, I have a lovely replacement Pixel 4 XL.

A new problem... Google haven't sent me a return label and I'm still waiting for them to get back to me.

It's been a couple of days now and still nothing!

I'd love to know what on earth is going on with the IMEI number!
