What's come loose in my Octavia Mk2?

Noticed a faint petrol (or petrol-like) smell when driving my Octavia (It's a 131, fairly certain the end of the Mk2 model, 1.2l petrol) so had a look under the hood to see if there was anything glaringly wrong (like a clear leak etc).

I spotted a bit of black liquid just on the right side of the engine block, and when I checked I found that this was loose.

By the looks of it, the tip has broken off or worn away.

Here's where it's running from at the engine side (runs just underneath what you can see here), and here's where it connects to.

    So can anyone tell me:

    1) What I'm looking at, and is it something that's relatively easy to sort?
    2) Could it explain the smell I was getting, or have I just found a separate, unrelated problem?

Looking around for a good engine diagram but haven't found one yet.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Thanks - that looks to be exactly what’s happened to me. Will see if I can find the spare part tomorrow... looks like an easy fix (except maybe getting the old, broken nozzle out)

Yep, breather pipe... You getting a whiff of cyl head fumes on idle when starting up.

It seems to be more after a little bit of driving - but it’s faint enough so hard to know for sure.

Anyway, nearby dealership has the part so will pick it up tomorrow and hopefully have it sorted then.

Just to update for anyone who might find this thread while searching for answers to the same problem

Got the suggested part (€26 in a Skoda dealership - may have found it cheaper online but they had it in stock so opted to get it now rather than wait any longer).

Was a very easy fix - just pulled the old bit off the pipe, pushed the new one on and then pushed the nozzle into the cylinder head. Had expected to have to remove the old nozzle but it was nowhere to be found - suspect it got pushed out by the engine.

Anyway - after a few drives the petrol smell seems to be gone - so hopefully that’s that problem solved

    Thanks all for the help!
