I was wondering for someone who's on illness benefit, if they receive an inheritance of, let's say, 40K, will they no longer be eligible to get their help from the state?

Illness benefit is not means tested. It is dependant solely on your prsi contributions.

Illness benefit is not means tested so be it 40k or 400k then you’d still be eligible.
You only get illness benefit for 2 years though.
If you are still ill after that then you’ll either get invalidity pension if you qualify, and you’d still have your 40k or if you got disability allowance that IS means tested but your allowed to have 50k and still get all your DA so you’d still be good.
