Can anyone help me with this form?

I have a Beetle 1976 that belonged to my late father. I can't find the log book amongst his personal effects so Shannon sent me out a form that would transfer the ownership and give me a logbook. (Shannon cam find the car on their system but it doesn't have the VIN details)

It's not your common-or-garden change of ownership or lost logbook form. I need to provide a copy of my dad's will, get the form stamped by a solicitor and - the bit I am finding near impossible- get it stamped by a motor dealer.

I have called the nearest VW garages who are variously not interested or in one case wanted me to get the car towed to them (it doesn't drive) to show them the car. One put me through to vw Ireland who can't help. One told me any simi garage can do it (true).
I called some local garages and no-one wants to do it. One guy said he would call this week but when I rang him yesterday, he said to call him back next week...
Look, I get it. It's a pain in the ass, there is nothing in it for them. I would be willing to pay a small fee for time e.g say €50. One guy said he would allow me come in with photos of the VIN and the car but changed his mind when I rang back.

I'm not a scammer, I just want the logbook so I can give the car on to a local enthusiast. I hate to see it rotting away all sad.

    Anyone any ideas?

Whereabouts are you based? I know a couple of VW guys who might be able to help, but depends on location. One in Castledermot and one in Kilkenny

It would be very straightforward if your late father had completed the relevant forms before he passed away. nudge nudge wink wink etc

I know of a similar situation where this had happened and worked out perfectly for all involved

Any reputable garage with a VAT number should be fine to do it, was in my case.

I acquired a car , that had been abandoned by its previous owners who left the country.
(All above board) and I got a form from Shannon,
Filled out engine number, vin and reg no. On the form, got it stamped by a local garage, and then got a solicitor to witness my signature.

Posted it off, and a fresh log book arrived in the post.

Surely your not expecting someone to come to your house and stamp the form? Having the car towed to the garage is reasonable. By stamping the form they are certifying that the car is what you say it is and that all the details are correct. You can’t just expect them to stamp the form without seeing the car

In my case that's what happened..( the form stamping bit) .. but they know me on a personal level.

The last time I'd to get a logbook, called into the dealership asked the receptionist to stamp it and job done

Not exactly. I'm asking them to come to the house (less than 1km for local garages) to see the car if they're not prepared to stamp it at the dealership.
It's a long story but the car is currently surrounded by walls with no vehicular access. Even a tow truck wouldn't get it out.

Kilkenny: thanks for the offer. I much appreciate it. I'm in Wicklow :-(
If my father filled the forms: yes I fear that ship may have sailed as I have emailed Shannon with my issue to get them to send me the form.
Just went to local garage: yes, That is what I'm trying to do but no-one is willing to do it. Only one person has suggested towing it. The rest just say "try elsewhere'. Maybe if I just walk in there they might do it... I will try that perhaps

You just need someone to confirm the engine number.
Ask a mechanic at your local (backstreet) garage to call into you some evening, he can confirm the numbers and stamp the form the following day .

    Then go on from there.

I'm trying to be helpful, but it sounds like you want someone to hold your hand.

Thanks. I'll try them- perhaps I'll have more success. Defo not a hand holding person - I did the probate on my dad's estate myself hey! Just annoying when you feel like you're being passed from Billy to Jack and fobbed off after calling so many places.

A lot of places just have no interest in dealing with classics. If you can't get the car out now, I presume you would plan on getting it out to sell it. I'm in south Wicklow and if you get nowhere let me know and I'll see if there's anyone that I could send that way.

I think I might have had some success today! I'll know in the morning. Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

Sounds similar to the 'I Acquire' form I had to do recently (albeit on a 2008 car with a missing logbook, not in classic territory).

    It was this form:

    https://i.postimg.cc/CwNQSjyF/i-acquire.jpg

I went to a local Ford Dealer, they looked at the VIN in the windscreen, stamped the form and charged me €20. Solicitor was even faster, and did it for free.

If the car is walled in and not running, just ask the dealership can you get them to come out to do it, and you'll pay a standard towing fee (even though they won't be towing anything, it'll still presumably be a fee where they can send an employee out and make a profit off it). As far as I am aware, the dealer has to be a main dealer (how this is verified, i don't know... I doubt it is).

If you're still having no luck at all, just ring a few local dealers and ask the employee would he do it as a nixer. He can pop out after work and bring the stamp. I doubt the dealership would care, but it might help them get around any awkward policies or such the dealership have in place. Failing that, get onto Vistaprint and make a 'tea and coffee motors co.' stamp and do it yourself?

The form is a load of nonsense anyway and anyone with 20 minutes and photoshop would get around it. Why they make you hassle solicitors and such, i do not know, and considering there seems to be no reference number or such provided by the dealership (just their stamp and a signature) i doubt they'd ever hear back from shannon, even if the car was miles off what it was supposed to be.
