Love holiday refund request bank details through email

I am due a refund from Love Holidays for cancelling a hotel I booked through them. I was due to travel in September but we cancelled in June. I received an invoice saying that the refund would be paid into my bank through the card details provided at payment by the 30th June. We did not receive the refund and today I received an email requesting my bank details so that they can process my refund. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if it was ok?
Love holidays cannot be contacted of course - they no longer have a phone line and everything has to go through live chat and every time I go onto the live chat it says they are busy and to refresh again in a few minutes. The 'manage my booking' session doesn't even have a section to send an email anymore.
Does anyone know if it is ok to send bank details through email? They have my reference number and exact amount of refund in the email they sent me but I would still like to be overly cautious as I cannot afford to lose my money to some scam!!
    TIA for any advice.

Were you told you would get money back for canceling that far in advance?

Yes they confirmed I would get a refund and that I would get it by 30 June.

Never send bank details through email. It's insecure.

    Have they requested them?

Never send bank details through email. It's insecure.

All they need is the OP's IBAN number, that's made up of your branch sort code and account numer. Both of which are clearly printed at the bottom of a personal cheque that you might hand to an electrician or plumber.

This has been discussed umpteen times on boards. There is no exposure giving your IBAN to someone, a scammer cannot debit your account using your IBAN number, it can only be used to transfer money in. To debit your account, they need your debit card number and the three digit security code on the back.

Make sure the sender is legitimate. Click reply and their address should appear as name@loveholidays.ie ...

If that's the case, there's no problems at all sending your bank details by email.

This UK number for Love Holidays might be worth a try 0044 1233 800 708. Best of luck!

Yes, someone always feels the urge to throw in the Jeremy Clarkson story. That was a prank, nobody lost money and besides, he was (literally) asking for it.

Any DD started now can be reversed and blocked under SEPA anyway
