Car different colour to log book

Not silver vs grey, no this car is wine/burgundy but it says it's green.
It's apparently a 'proper' respray, the engine bay, door jams, boot interior etc.

    Should I be worried?
It's an Mx-5 NB, looks to be in great condition but this is rubbing me the wrong way.
    What do ye think?

Mx5s and the like tend not to be bought by old ladies and driven at 10k below the speed limit.

Any indication that major work was done (I consider a respray to be major work) and I would walk (run) away !

    Just not worth the risk...

    But they're a hairdressers car!!

Good point though, it's just very hard to find a nice NB so I was hoping that would be a goer.

MX-5's are also enthusiast attracting cars, so a full respray might not mean anything, other than the paintwork was not up to the owners standards and they decided on a full colour change while doing so.

Moral of the story is to ask about it and see what the situation is behind it. If the seller now is not the one that resprayed it, or is a trader who has no idea who did previously respray it, then be a lot more wary, but if it's an enthusiast selling it, then I'm sure they'll be more than happy to tell the story behind the car.

The car looks great, it's passed the NCT with no issues so it's got a full year behind it.

It's a garage selling it, said the fella who owned it prior brought it to them for the last 8 years..
It's also the only 1.8 I can get a reasonable quote on!

I rang the garage again, they said the car was imported in 2005, and that it's been one owner since then.
So if it was resprayed it was done in Japan.

Then why is the log book wrong? Is it a JDM car?

It should be possible to find part of the car that the respray missed.

It's a JDM car alright, imported in 05.
He said the paint could do with touching up if I was really being picky about it.

I would not bother further - it smells a bit off. It must be twenty years old at this stage, so rust might be an issue. Surely there are as good or better examples around. They do not generally drop in value once they pass 2006. Importing from the UK might be worth a consideration, but watch the VRT and NOX, particularly the 2008 ones as the Motor Tax is higher due to the CO2 value being higher than 2009.

If you do look at this car, check for places where a respray would not normally touch, like the boot and the engine area, or the underside. Look for the original colour.

You might try the ND 1.5, but might be too expensive.

Too many alarm bells for me.
