Strongly considering going for the S10 with Vodafone on pre-pay for €589 today + €20 credit. I hear the Vodafone ones are sim free so my plan is to switch to Eir sim only next month @15 euro for first 6 months.

From looking around I don't think I can do much better than that between any of the networks. If I go bill pay with 3 it works out €17 cheaper over 24 months but I won't own the phone until then.

Other than Adverts & Amazon does anybody think I can do better?

Is it important to get it in the shop?

If you're willing to spend that amount I'd buy a new S20 off this guy for 639

    http://www.adverts.ie/21077494

If you're adament on an S10 they can be got closer to 500 on Adverts too.

Kind of yeah. I intend of paying for it through BOI credit card instalment plan. Most of the guys on adverts only take cash so it rules them out.

Doesn't the S20 not have its fair share of problems as well ?

Ah right, fair enough. I'd find some way of getting the full amount and paying it upfront, will save you with fees etc. But I'm not going to lecture you on payment plans, that's your decision :)

No issues with my S20 (albeit I have a plus)

    Best of luck.

So the S20 can be got on Amazon.de for 650 at the time of posting this. I've no issues paying the bit extra for a new model, especially as it's sold by Amazon themselves but I'm just sceptical in regards to it's reliability.

As I mentioned above I understand that these have a few issues, the Ultra in particular with it's camera. Does the ordinary S20 have many of the same issues ? A lot of what I've read claim these issues are un-fixable and that the S10 is a more reliable device.

Lots of phones are buggy when they are launched. Haven’t heard of anything recent giving problems. It was mainly the ultra that had issues (camera focus).

Done a complete u-turn and went with an iPhone 11 from Viberstore. Haven't set it up yet, hopefully I like it and it serves me well.

Dont dream of buying this phone on a credit card. You will pay a lot of interest unless you get zero interest. You simply can not afford this phone at the present moment if you're buying it on credit card.

I always get a new phone every year. I buy outright. My present phone is the Samsung A70 128GB 6' SuperAmoled display dual sim which is great and I managed to buy it new for around €250.~€100 off) I dont ever buy secondhand phones. Always get money back offers from Samsung when available, usually around christmas and also discount from phone companies for switching network. Then I get the phone unlocked to increase its resale value. I would advise you to go for subsidiary GO MO instead or Eir. I always shop around for the best bargain and dont listen to those people in the phone shops they just want a sale.

Had two of them, great phones. Coincidentally, I got rid of it for this S20+! Best of luck.

Yyhhuuu, don't tell me what I can afford and can't afford, we're talking about phones here not a 70k BMW. I could afford the Pro Max if I wanted to but chose not to have a phone that expensive or big. I rather spread the cost out over time like pay bill pay but not be tied into anything for 24 months. If we're really interested in knowing how much interest I'll be paying its an €25 extra.

Cheers rizzee, I was still up until last minute yesterday considering buying off them two brothers from Tallaght you recommended to me but the lack of card payment with them didn't suit me.

I'm still on the S7 at the moment, ill probably try set the iPhone up when I'm finished work and transfer as much as possible over. I was told I should be able to retain about 90% of what I have from my old one.

Think you can only deal with them via web chat if I'm correct ?

I probably should of done this a few months ago but when I was switching to Eir SIM only yesterday the guy in the shop when telling me theres nothing stopping me switching between Eir and Three €15 SIM only offers every six months.

Ive payed them via Revolut with no issues. Also PayPal. Not sure whether they do regular bank transfers though.

Yeah you should be fine, you will lose all your WhatsApp data though, unfortunately.

Losing the WhatsApp data when changing platforms is most bloody annoying it’s like losing your numbers years ago... They really should be able to sort it in the 21st century.

There is a way to transfer all your WhatsApp stuff from android to iPhone. I did it when I tried an xs for a few weeks. There's a program called Dr Fone that does it. You can get cracked versions of it online and it worked flawlessly. Used it to transfer my stuff from my Xperia 1 to an iPhone xs I was trying. Then used it to go back to my Xperia 1 when I missed using it.

Thanks for that, that's good to know. Can't see myself going back to iPhone any time soon but it would certainly help other family members.

Thought I'd share how I'm getting on with moving from Andriod to iOS after nearly 4 weeks.

The switch to iOS hasn't being as bad as I initially thought it would be especially considering I decided to switch last minute. I pretty much took the f**k it approach.

Both let me do what I generally do with a phone, ring & text people, browse the Internet, stream & cast videos and listen to music with no hassle.

There are a few things I miss from the S7 though, first like many is the AUX jack, the adaptor I bought from Amazon was faulty so I've had to order a new one for the car.

Next one would be that I miss the Samsung Keyboard, the default one on the 11 isnt great and Gboard while better still isn't as good. I loved with the Samsung that you could hold "M" for a second or two for a question mark or "S" for @. With the 11 I lose that feature except for numbers.

The camera roll folder was apparently deleted from iOS 13 so my own camera photos and WhatsApp photos (from group chats especially) are all going into the one folder now and as a result I've had to switch off WhatsApp photos.

I miss not being able to control the different volumes (ringer, media, notifications etc) with the side buttons, not major but still.

Another one is the Smart Unlock feature when I am connected to the Bluetooth in my car. With the 11 I have to enter my pin every time I do something like make a call or change a song.

And finally I have to pay for iCloud storage space. Have yet to get around to setting it up.

Things I do like are the camera, one of the best I've seen on a phone, portrait mode is fantastic. The battery is brilliant, I could get around 36 hours or more if I don't go mad with watching videos. I love how easy and neutral the screen is on my eyes.

Overall I'm enjoying the phone and learning more about it each day, the interface of the iPhone is quite simple and user friendly but I still feel that you've more control with Andriod compared to iOS on many things.

You've done better than I ever could. I committed to switching to an iPhone for a week, but couldn't last it. It's true that there's no real difference for most common tasks, but I still found myself discovering something I'd do on Android that just wasn't on iOS multiple times a day.

Drove me mad, lasted about 3 days.

Go with Go Mo it's cheaper. They're quite good. Try to get the €100 off vodafone.
Try to get more off by switching provider. Buy wherever is cheapest then get ur phone unlocked by buying unlock codes online eg. Unlock.ie

Already got an iPhone 11 and went with Eir SIM only. In 5 months time I'll switch back to 3 SIM only and vice versa.

Good luck with it. Cex are great for buying ur old phone. I always shop around for my samsung phone every year. Usually get around €100 off. Try go mo they're great value and just as good as Eir. Take a day or two off if planning to call eir call centre. Then book into a psychiatric hospital after the stress.lol.
