'08 Avensis starter motor

Have a 08 Avensis 2l d4d. Trying to change the starter motor. Anything I've seen online suggests once the bolts are out, and plugs disconnected, it should just slide out. Issue is there doesn't seem to be enough space to allow the casing over the pinion to clear the housing of the gearbox. Any suggestions would be most…

Have a 08 Avensis 2l d4d. Trying to change the starter motor. Anything I've seen online suggests once the bolts are out, and plugs disconnected, it should just slide out.

Issue is there doesn't seem to be enough space to allow the casing over the pinion to clear the housing of the gearbox.

Any suggestions would be most welcome

For anyone else who comes across this thread, I removed the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold. Still a tight squeeze, but just about doable
