    Wow should have known

Why would anyone ship a 6/7 year old 2.0 Tdi Passat from Australia to Ireland ?

    Would they even be insured?

I can recall seeing a car with saudi arabia reg plates in Rathkeale Co. Limerick in the 1990s.

That's crazy paying about 2600 euro to ship a common car worth about 8k.

Also isn't a 2.0 tdi Passat rare for Australia? Could it be that it was originally an Irish car?

Perhaps his employer shipped it as part of a relocation clause.
Reminds me of a time (around 1990), guy I knew worked in Africa for a large company. Part of the deal was they would ship his personal effects to his new workplace. He bought a humongous old merc (5 litre I think) and got it shipped. Had no problem offloading it over there, at a tidy profit I assume.

    That actually makes sense!

Would they be insured over here too? Probably temporarily until VRT registration.

Not that rare in OZ . A manual transmission would be rare, but a Volkswagen Passat diesel is not rare as far as I know.

Yeah there be a fair amount of tdi's over there but tsi's would be more common. Diesel is more expensive at the pumps over there than petrol. But still way cheaper than here.
