Rent a Room Query/Sole Residence

    Hi Folks,

Hope someone could help with interpreting this query as the Revenue Offices are closed.

I have been renting a room to a licensee in my Sole/Principal Private Residence for the last 2 years.

I am due to move to a different county for work. I will be working and renting in the other county 3-4 days per week and will be back in my Sole/Principal Private Residence for the other 3-4 days of each week.

Am I still eligible for the Rent A Room Relief for the room I rent in my Sole/Principal Private Residence?

I cannot seem to find a precise definition of 'Sole Residence' aside from "Your main residence is your home for most of the year and where friends would expect to find you. You do not have to own the property to claim relief.

The room or rooms must be in a residential property that is located in Ireland. You must use it as your main residence during the tax year.
    "

Thanks in advance for any advice!

To which address will your mail be delivered to?

My mail address will remain as it was - to my PPR.

My understanding it's where people would expect to contact you and where you stay over half the year. So I guess it would be important to be able to say you were in it over 6 months of the year at a minimum.

Your house should remain your ppr while made/required to work elsewhere. But email revenue via myenquies to get their judgement on your situation in writing so if anything ever comes back you have it.

It remains your primary residence. You are only on temp transfer abroad and renting. It's covered somewhere in the revenue pages.

I was the same when I worked Abroad initially
