PAYE enquiry

Recently returned to work after 5 months out, during which I was claiming JSB (rather than JSA) at rate of €203 per week.

May be a very stupid question, but ive noticed my net pay has been taxed quite heavily. Gross pay per week is €865 and net pay is €590 per week.

Rang revenue and they have confirmed im not on emergency tax, would 5 months of a claim really raise my tax (affect my tax credits) this much? They told me to contact SW office and seek confirmation of the total amount I was paid and when I signed off. I signed off on the Friday before the following Monday start.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

The JSB will reduce your tax credits. Assuming you had 20 payments of €203 ( 5 Months, X 4 weeks per month), this would reduce your tax credits by €812 (€4060 JSB received - €203 x 4 weeks X 5 months).

So im basically just paying it back?
Would someone on means tested JSA have the same reduction in tax credits for starting a new job?

€275 deducted from €865 is fairly hefty

    Surely that cant be right?

€275 per week in tax? Thats insane

Nearly 15k tax on a gross salary of 45k

You might have been moved on to a week 1 basis.
Did revenue post you out an updated tax credit certificate recently?
We’d need to see your payslip to provide better advice but clearly I am not advising you to show us your payslip.
Either way if you have over paid you’ll get it back at the year end if you request a balancing statement/submit med expense etc

Looking at my revenue online and under JSB payment for year they have €9800, surely thats an error

My tax credits have been reduced by over €1900. Credits were €6600 combined with wife, now its only €4650, only lost my job in February, and back to work start of July.

I did get updated tax credit cert and confirms same, surely DSP have fecked that up?

Where are they getting €9800 DSP payment amount??its less than half that. €203 per week since middle of Feb.

As you started JSB in February, they have assessed you based on 11 months of €203 payments.
This info was submitted to Revenue and they have adjusted your credits accordingly.

To clarify SW submitted an annual 2020 amount to Revenue - feb-dec 2020, which just needs to be updated to reflect your change in circumstance.

Thanks for info. Why on earth would they have submitted info based on 11months?

SW are also now telling me I have to change this with revenue myself due to data protection, which seems unfair. There was no data protection issue when they submitted incorrect info to revenue

Check if you are on a week 1 or cumulative tax basis.

You can see this on your revenue account
