Dog has soft stools

My dog is 11 and a half (labrador).  He has been on burns food pork & potato for a few years now and has always done well on it.  However, after they changed the packaging, I had to buy the 12kg size (I used to buy 7.5kg).  I was surprised to see that the ingredients had changed.  Previously it was Potato 35%  Maize 27%  Pork Meal 17%.  The new ingredients are Potato 27%  Maize 25%  Fresh Pork  22%  Pork Meal 12%.
Since my dog started on the new packaging, his stools are really soft.    Could this be because the pork is a lot more now.   Someone suggested to cut his food down for a few weeks to see if it makes a difference.
I don't understand why Burns would change the ingredients anyway.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated

Maybe substitute a cup of nuts with a cup of boiled rice. When he goes back to normal reduce the rice and increase the nuts.

Rice is supposed to help with runny poop.

Maybe the meat content is too high for your dog? He would be considered as 'Senior' now and wouldn't be able to digest meat as easily. Try boiled brown rice with his food instead. I wouldn't use white as that has less fibre than the brown and the idea is to firm him up a bit.

ETA - Psyllium husk is also excellent for firming up the stools. You can buy it in health stores.

    Hope this helps!

Thank you both for the suggestions.
He is on food for a senior at the moment.

Any change in food can effect stomach/stools
Sometimes its nice to just change food to provide a bit of, well, a change!!
Maybe since he is senior, it would be worth looking at the Burns, duck or turkey
varieties which would be more gentle on his stomach.

Pork is high in protein, and is considered a rich meat, so if they have increased the fresh meat content its probably too much for his digestion?

I really don't know why they changed the ingredients in the first place. The food I buy is for a sensitive dog, so you wouldn't think they would increase the pork if it was going to cause soft stools.
