    Hi folks

    A couple of questions here; interested in an opinion from those in the motor know;

    Our situation is that our family is growing and in the new year we will need/want a car that better suits our needs (2nd child on the way, this will be the last). Both in multi national companies, thankfully no job security concerns etc, at this point in time anyways. We're both working from home (thanks to covid) until early 2021 at least and by then ill be on Maternity leave.
    We have my husbands car as a second car which we intend to drive into the ground unless in the next few years we decide its not worth keeping anymore, for whatever reason.
    We have a 2017 decent spec (HL) 1.2 Golf Petrol with 26km on clock, full service history etc so expect to get around €20k for it and use that, plus another 10k-ish finance/savings, to fund the new car round the €30k budget.

    Questions...

    1. Would it be a good idea to try and sell the Golf now rather than wait until the end of the year/new year and get the value for it now rather than loose another 6 months depreciation? We'd then buy a really cheap car to keep my own insurance policy live and dispose of this once we get the family car in Dec/Jan. Dont expect to be able to sell the Golf privately at €20k value/cost or am i wrong? Is there good value to be had/gotten now after 3 months of garages been closed up, are the garages doing good deals to move stock/do business?

    2. I know its been asked a million times, apologies; What Top 3 family cars would you suggest we focus on researching based on priorities of;
    - SUV (history of back problems so want to go higher) + lifting 2 kids/car seat in and out of car
    - reliable brand/model history
    - nice solid car to drive
    - as much boot space as we can get for the budget (we usually do regular cross country trips for the weekend or longer, though prob wont go as often now with 2 kids)
    - no older than 3 yrs (unless the history of the car really warrants an additional year)
    - petrol (hybrid if possible)
    - Decent spec (rear camera, parking sensors, steering wheel controls for cruise control, radio volume etc)
    - €30k budget (could push it to €35k if it was really justified)
    We've never done an NI/UK import but would be open to it.

    Appreciate thoughts on the above...thank you!
