Strength & Conditioning Small Group Training Cork

    Hi there,

I'm currently a member of a gym where I do S&C training classes. We have the full use of gym during class so we are using the proper machines etc. We are usually paired in twos for the class which is excellent for motivation and spotting for one another. The trainers are so on the ball and constantly push you to increase your weights. They are so precise when it comes to technique so you don't injure yourself. The coaches have a genuine interest in their clients... They know everyone's name and there is a real sense of community. I have made friends through this gym and I have improved and developed so much since I started there but my problem is I am moving to Cork city for work and have to leave my gym. I would love to join a gym that offers something similar. I was a member of several gyms in the past in Dublin and other parts of country and to be honest I have found most coaches to be disinterested or gyms to be ridiculously overpriced and pushing one to one PT. I am not a fan of circuit classes either... A lot of them are just body weight or kettlebells classes. Does anyone have any suggestions on this type of training, preferably south side of Cork City?

Check out Fitness Worx at the Kinsale Road roundabout.

I'm not a member but I was looking at PAYG type gyms for when I am in Cork and I'd previously checked them out and liked what I saw (in the end my current gym just gave me a program for the time I was away and I went to Bishopstown and did my own thing).

The Mardyke Arena in UCC offer this type of service and actually have a new small group studio that will be opening soon especially for this type of training. Email andrew.burns@ucc.ie to enquire.

I don't know what's happening with gyms in the city atm with regard to Covid-19, but if I was in the city I'd be going to CrossFit LeCheile. It's on the south side, in Togher, near the driving test centre. The coaches are fantastic and the members seem to have a good sense of community.

As do Oakgrove. They have a pool and gym, as well as a separate 'Strength & Conditioning Centre'. They're in Mahon/Blackrock.

I was only in FitnessWorx once for a private group session so I can't say anything about the members there, but the coach we had was great and it seems like a good gym too.

Is CrossFit Le Cheile like a "proper" CrossFit gym with the ring pull ups and all that? Might give them a look when I'm back over Xmas.

Nevermind, I think Oakgrove is the one I want!

Yes - all the equipment you need. You've already said you're going to Oakgrove, but LeCheile's facebook page gives a good sense of what they're about.

Im not actually a huge fan of CrossFit but the local gym I use here are big into S&C, functional fitness and group training so if avoids kipping I’ll check them both out over Xmas when I’m back.
