Hi so I'm currently working in the security industry and cant see myself doing it for the next 30 years so looking to change I have ideas at the moment but that's all they are trying to be realistic.

First off what jobs is there with decent salary that you dont need a degree for apart from garda anything like that as I can still get into them but dont want to just hang on to that and hope I get into a publuc job.

I see alot of people on this are in IT sector that would be an option to go back to college part time and do it I wont no if i like it until i actually do it .

Other idea would be sports therapist/ physiotherapist but the money is turning me away from it as it's not as great as I thought it would be

Any advice is welcome thanks .

If you could put up with office work you could apply for a job as a Clerical Officer in the Civil Service. No degree required. Actually if you have a good leaving you could apply for Executive Officer too. These days a lot of people have degrees applying for these jobs but don't let that put you off In the least it's only due to so many going to college these days. Not having a degree won't be held against you. It's all about doing okay in the tests and interview. The tests suit some and not others and you will only find out by applying.

There is also a Services Officer role but these don't come up that often which is more focused on Portering, manning front desks and ordering supplies depending on the Department. Clerical Officer would be your best way in if interested. Register at Public Jobs.ie so you don't miss the next competition.if you want to give it a bash. There are plenty of threads on here re the different competitions.

There are also Temporary Clerical Officer roles but things are slow this year due to Covid and people working from home.

Unfortunately if there were a lot of well paid jobs without degrees a lot less people would be getting degrees.

Public service is your best bet. As mentioned clerical officer is one option but it does take a long time before you would be well paid, and depending on your definition of well paid sone would say never.

With that in mind, what do you do Sider well paid as that will help narrow down the options a lot?

Train, bus, Luas driver could all be options as well. I know they are generally well paid given i fairly sure you don't need any college qualifications for them.

You’re only in your late 20s I don’t think that’s too late to do an apprenticeship, especially if you’ll end up in a career that you’ll be happy in. If that’s the type of work you’re interested in you’ll probably be very bored in the civil service.

Well garda , prison officer would be the goal , salary in those jobs goes up pretty quickly to around 80k with overtime.

Train and luas drivers aswell good paying jobs for what you have to do they dont recruit very often , I cant remember the last time the luas took any drivers on .
