I need a phone for an older person capable of running the HSE Covid App.

This person has never used a Smartphone before but can use a basic Doro phone.

    Specs needed:
    good battery
    clear loud sound
Large easily read text for messaging apps and email.

Maybe one of the cheaper Galaxy A series? The mother in law has a Galaxy A50 over a year now. Has the font enlarged with bolder text. Gets 2 days battery life as well. Can be got for around 200 max these days. The newer A51 would be a bit under 300.

Eveb the A20/A30 series might do. Cheap and cheerful and would suit their needs.

Thanks very much, I'll check those out.

With the Galaxy being an older phone will the Covid app run on it?

Also do you happen to know if the Covid app will run on some feature phones as well as on full smartphones?

Absolutely any android smartphone with a big screen would work.

The Samsung Galaxy's all offer a "Simple" mode during setup that is quite easy for those of a non technological bent to get to grips with.

That said, if you are setting the phone up for them?
The biggest screen available for your budget, I'm a Xiaomi fan myself currently and the Note series from them offers some great value handsets.
Any android at all running better than 8.0 (I think 6.1 is the min for the app however), Then install nova launcher, set it as the "home" app and set the phone up to your/their liking and then lock the setup.
