    Hey guys,

I am (28) a classical trained violin player playing the violin since childhood. Since I live in Ireland I am not only practicing classical music but learned more about Bluegrass, Irish Folk and Klezmer Music.

I would be happy to find some like minded musicians to play any of this music. Such as banjo player, mandolin, guitar, piano or other string players for classical music (Open to other instruments as well). I am very open to to meeting other enthusiastic musicians. I am living in Dublin and maybe we could meet up for a jam session (on social distance of course).

    Cheers!

Waltons (school of music) used have bluegrass jam sessions for violin and have an orchestra for their members - I can’t remember if they have a ‘session’ group but you could stick an old fashioned sign up inside their door on Georges St. (in Dublin - near Yamamori Noodles) or check out their extensive array of leaflets inside their shop!

if it was Irish music you wanted the big thing here is Ceolitas Ceoltóirí na hÉireann. Is is like the GAA for Irish Music! it might be right up your street! I trained clasically but wanted some trad and so took classes with them to get to know some of the trad techniques and get in with the crowd. They have a model of cheap classes or group seasions lead by more experienced members and have branches all over the country. When I joined they didn’t do sightreading but they have now changed their strategy and provide sheetmusic - not sure if this was just my local branch or all of them. I found the group that used meet in Marino School in Fairview/Dublin on Saturday really welcoming and helpful (more adult orientated and conveniently positioned beside off licence and fish shop). Once they know you know a few of the Irish tunes and are anyway ok at playing you can get yourself involved in their trad sessions where people come & meet up and play trad style. Cobblestone bar is /used to be a good example. You need to know the songs to be let participate but they are easily picked up - its a great organisation and will open many doors if you are interested!

If you’ve heard about Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann ( the Fleadh) this is the organisation that feeds into it and traditional musicians come from all over Ireland to ‘compete’, play and showcase their music. There would also be a few drinks and socialising involved!!

Best of luck with it if this is what you’d like to do - it used be a great way to get to know some people and expand your knowledge of our Irish music traditions.

I don’t know how covid has impacted :0

    Hi!

Thanks a lot for your reply! Lots of useful information in there. I think session are not taking place at the moment in pubs and probably pubs stay closed at least until August :( But as soon as they open I will definitely have a look.

Pleasure all mine. You missed my point - this is NOT about pubs! It takes place in schools, halls and parish locations or private houses all around the country. Pubs is just what the tourists think/see.
