Is the 12 volt socket in a 13 Volvo S60 supposed to stay on?

    Seems strange. Its a 2013 year Volvo S60. The brother just picked up his car and was wondering about that.

    Yes, that is normal. Some cars 12v sockets are permanently live.

    It's quite handy if you have a cooler or phone connected.

    Mine is a 07 S60 and the same, has a permanently live socket. I never noticed until I was fitting a dash cam a couple of years ago and was going tap the fuse for the switched live cable.

    A lot of European cars do, think all the VAG cars also do it.

    On some cars you can move a fuse into a different slot to change it from permanent to switched.

    I have 2 12v sockets and a cigarette lighter socket, the 12v sockets are always live the cigarette lighter socket comes on with the ignition.

    Which is why it's wise never to leave the socket open, as a samll metal object might fall in short out electrics or even start a fire.

    Or some crappy USB adaptor mightn’t like being powered up non stop.
