Hi all, I am about to move into my new home which has no broadband. I work from home (like half the country!) but I have been told by eir and vodafone I need to get a UAN before they can proceed. Problem is previous owner is deceased. Their appears to be an active line attached to the house but dont know the phone number. I am going around in circles for two weeks with eir now trying to get it deactivated and broadband set up. Anyone in similar position and have a solution? Many thanks...

Can you plug in a handset and dial another number to see if caller ID will show the number?

Tried this and phone was dead. Not sure how the line is still active but just taking this as gospel from eir.

Who executed probate for the deceased?

Ask your solicitor to contact the vendors solicitor and get the UAN from the next of kin, or whoever was selling it to you. They will have the bills, as they should have closed all those contracts and terminated connections etc. It's a number on the top of any phone bill they have.

Do you know the name of the deceased previous owner, and the phone book?

Eir used to allow you provide your new lease or letter from estate agents to show you’re now the new leaseholder / renter and they’d close down the previous persons account. I’m surprised they didn’t provide this suggestion - maybe they no longer allow it but it is worth asking the question ?

    ^ This.

You need to have the existing account declared delinquent so you can start a fresh. This will take a few weeks so be ready for that.

Im trying to go down this route. Getting no response from eir over 3 weeks now but luckily I went through switcher.ie so they are helping with follow ups. Such a pain...
