Hoping for some advice from dog owners!
Where have you found your dog is welcome to come with you and where is a definite no no! She’s a small breed, would be on a lead of course! Now that we are starting to be out and about more, We don’t want to bring her anywhere she’s not wanted! where would you be happy to bring your doggy?

There are plenty of pet friendly places in Ireland. It might help to give an idea of your location :) I know there was a thread on this before but I can't find it at the minute unfortunately!

Thanks for the reply! We’re south east, but to be honest, I’m not looking for days out. More day to day out and about. Will probably head to Dublin for a day out soon. Bit of shopping, Nando’s, Kildare village, bit of sight seeing. Might stay overnight somewhere. Kids will probably want to bring the dog! Would appreciate any tips!

My dogs would be terrified if I brought them around a busy city centre. Seems a bit cruel to me. I doubt shopping centres allow dogs other than guide dogs, same for individual shops and most cafes.

There's a website called bringfido.com that will tell where you can bring your dog for an overnight stay.

Dublin City Centre would be ok to be fair if the dog doesn't mind lots of people, traffic and bicycles whizzing about.

Nando's won't let a dog in ......... Kildare Village I reckon aren't dog friendly, the individual shops definitely won't let you in with a dog.

If you were looking at down the country ie cork or Galway I could recommend some really good dog friendly places ..

To be honest I can’t see many (with the exception or maybe 1 or 2) places in Dublin City being dog friendly ..

I live in Dublin city, bring the doggo into town all the time. He loves it, loves the chats and attention.
Most places that have outside seats will let doggos sit there, not so sure about inside spaces.
Depends on the place I suppose.

In shops, I tend not to ask, just fire ahead and see what they say. Usually they are fine. Not the big chain/department stores though, smaller, friendlier independent stores. They're usually delighted to say hello to a friendly, well behaved dog.

Kildare village have a minding facility (kennels) for dogs, which is clean and pleasant, and free. Have used it before with no complaints. Don't think you can walk around or go into shops with a dog though.

IMO in general Ireland isn't that dog friendly as in it's fine to walk around outside with them, but not to bring them inside anywhere. So if you are eating you have to find somewhere outside, you have to really double check any accommodation, and at that not in common areas (a lot of the time).

I'm not saying whether that is right or wrong, but that is in general how I've found things.

If you search there's a thread here called 'dog friendly accomodation in Ireland'. People talking about their experiences of different accomodations as well as the types of things you can do in different counties with your dog IRC. Might be worth a skim through.

Generally if I'm planning to take my dog out with me for the day or away on a little break I'm planning a day or trip that is centred around them with just the need for accomodation and restaurants or cafes that are dog friendly but with activities being beaches and hikes and parks etc. etc. I don't think I'd drag one of my dogs on a trip that was centred around shopping and other 'boring' or potentially stressful human activities.

If I'm taking them to the beach and hoping to combine it with a nice lunch, as someone mentioned most places with outdoor seating are happy to have a dog. There's a couple of websites I can't think of the names now.. oh packthepooch might be one... where you can see which places allow dogs indoors.

Good luck. I do think we're getting more dog friendly here but we still have a looong way to go in comparison to some of our European counterparts.

    Thanks everyone!
I don't mean that I'm anti a day out that would be dog centred! Just that having been cooped up for so long we're looking many of our future every day activities. Just thinking what she might enjoy with us. Or she might not! But one way or another, I haven't taken much notice up to now as to where it's ok to bring a dog 🙂

I bring one of our dogs or both with me every day when going places in Dublin, the places we go don’t really advertise being dog friendly, but I’m known & the places that allow my dog in know that they are well trained. There some places that’s are open that advertises dog friendly, two pups cafe for instance, MVP and a few other pubs, most restaurants or cafes that have outdoor seating will allow dogs outdoors. However & I can’t stress this enough, you need to train your dog to be comfortable with the busy city traffic, scooters, bicycles on footpaths, motorcycles, horse drawn carriages, joggers, sirens, alarms and possibly the ice cream van... etc before even attempting to have a doggie day out in the city centre, otherwise it’s kind of not nice for the dog imo. Also with the whole COVID thing not sure if it’s possible.

Also, if your planning on using public transport while in the city, dogs 10kg or under are allowed on the DART & on Irish Rail, dogs in carriers are allowed on the LUAS. I’ve been told no dogs allowed on Dublin Bus, however I regularly get the 46a & the 175 with our Pom x as I don’t use them during peak times and the bus drivers know me pretty well by this stage.
