Does a criminal record impede your ability to get a job regardless of how educated you are? I just listened to a podcast on 98fm of an accountant who can only get jobs at supermarkets because of an assault he carried out.

Couldn't he just move to another country?

A Google search will likely deny him/her/undefined employment. Hard to defend assault, it's not like money resting in your account for fraud.

Of course it can but if your very talented in a very select area, it probable won't unless it was connected to your industry.

And yes, he could move abroad.

It does not really matter, if a background check is required, it will be done by a specialist agency who will check these things in detail.

Swiss banking law require that all employees regardless of rank or purpose must have a completely clean record. When I was involved in recruiting there, I have been given reports from an agency in the UK that included press clippings, court transcripts, police reports both European and North American. They even flagged up one person that changed their name twice - once in the UK and twice in the USA.

Would I be denied a job? I was cautioned for prescription forgery but never charged.

It depends on the employer and the law relating to the position you are applying for and of course the attitude of the recruiting manager themselves... for a Swiss bank or an agency providing services to a Swiss bank, absolutely. I believe "prescription forgery" would also be a big "no, no" in the Pharma industry as well.
