Vodafone x9 won’t go into deep sleep

So my Vodafone x9 running Android 8.1 wont go into “sleep mode” when screen off and not in use.

I’ve run it in safe mode and I’m still seeing android system taking approx 50% of power, and it appears to be keeping the phone from going into sleep mode.

When I open the battery stats, the biggest culprit is “ueventd” which takes up by far the most battery use in android system.

Does anyone have any suggestions or know how to solve this?

To be honest I've no idea what that process is but I would bet doing a full backup and factory reset would fix it if it is fixable. If it's still like that after a full reset then it could be a bug in the current os

    Thank you.

Yes, I’m not sure what the ueventd feature is either. Not much info online.

Few bits on xda developers about it on a sony phone causing battery drain. The fix that time was to reflash the kernel. I'd try a factory reset first if I were you. That will rule out a good few things.

How much is your battery actually draining? 50% being used by system isn't out of the ordinary, I wouldn't think.

Is it losing 10+% per hour when not being used or something?

Did you wipe the cache partition?

Yep i did. A number of times at this stage.

I’ll see if I can upload a pic at some stage but on the battery time line it shows time on WiFi, time with screen on, time using cellular data etc. it also shows time awake, and basically the phone is awake constantly - it never goes into deep sleep mode.

Whereas if it was functioning correctly it should be in deep sleep for the vast majority of the time when the screen is off

Approx 3-5 percent per hour drain from it even when it is safe mode where all 3rd party apps are disabled.

Did a full factory reset. No improvement.

It seems the issue is something to do with the kernel.

Do any other Vodafone x9 users who have updated to feb 2020 have similar issues?

What is your drain like in airplane mode? What is your signal strength like?

The drain in airplane mode is approx 2-3 percent per hour and the phone stays in awake mode constantly due to the ueventd package in android system.
