Hi, hoping you can help me.
I am a single mother of two, myself and my husband split a year ago, We are on great terms but living apart. I am still in the family home with the children and working full time but am considering applying for this payment, I do not claim any benefits and never have. I am just wondering does anyone know if you don’t get maintenance but your ex is still paying the mortgage in lieu of maintenance what way this will go as regards the application? Is there any point? I read once you are approved it is a 52 week payment but do you have random visits to your house about this? I just hear stories about people getting social visits etc and I am not sure it would be worth explaining to a stranger at my door who does be visiting me! I have 9 brothers so there is almost always a man hanging around or helping me with something I fear that if I did get a visit would it be an assumption I am living with someone when I shouldn’t be?

    Thanks in advance!

Hi. I can’t help you re the mortgage payments, my ex is more of a ‘sperm donor’ than ‘father’ at this stage, never spends a cent towards my children, but I’ve been receiving WFP formerly FIS for a few years now and have never had a visit to my house. Maybe you’re thinking of One Parent Family payment, hth a little.

There's always a point in applying for a social welfare payment to which you may be entitled! Apply and you'll be assessed following which you may or may not get some benefit. But don't apply and you definitely won't get it!

That said, if you're working full time and bringing home more than €632 a week, you're earning too much to be eligible.

    From CitizensInformation: Calculate your WFP

Non-cash benefits are not assessed as means. For example, if your rent or mortgage payments are made by an ex-spouse or partner under a maintenance agreement it is not assessed.

I presume they will want some proof there is a written maintenance agreement.
