Buying a car with unpaid car tax

    Hi, I am in the process of buying a car on Donedeal. However, the car tax hasn't been paid since last September. When I buy it will I have to back pay the car tax all the way back to last September?

    You only pay tax from the date you purchase the car .

    No you won't have to pay it, if you buy it today you will only pay from this month onwards.

    No.
    You will start with a clean slate following transfer.
    Just tax from start of current month.

    Nope, new owner is only liable from the month of purchase. Has been used to get out of back tax where cars were not declared off the road in the past ("sold" to a family member and bought back).
