10 years ago when I wore Glasses I said I did not need Glasses as otherwise I needed a report. I didn't have a car then and I still don't. I know this was wrong but I didn't have a car and didn't plan on getting a car and still don't have one 10 years on.

Problem now is I can apply online and have no problem saying I need to wear Glasses but if I say this will I be sent off to get a test. This defeats the purpose off online and because off covid 19 I'm going nowhere from house.

Should I just say I still don't need Glasses? I wan't to come clean but not if I'm forced to get an eye test.

An eye test is under €20, and you're at almost zero risk of contracting Covid sice both you and the optician will be wearing masks.

If you lie, and are subsequently involved in an accident, your insurance may be invalidated and you could be prosecuted for it.

Ah. Another ‘I don’t want to do what I’m supposed to do so do I have to do it please tell me what I want to hear’ thread...

No it doesn't. Online renewals are only available to those who meet the criteria which is clearly laid out. You don't fall into that category so it's not applicable to you. I can't see how this defeats the purpose of it for those who are.

It's not clearly laid out which is why I'm asking. If I now say I need Glasses will they just issue me a Licence and mark it on my new licence which is fine or will they ask me to go and get a test?

    "Corrective lenses" rather than glasses.

Did you get laser or are just wearing contacts?

I still wear Glasses and need them for driving - my opinion. I was never told by a Doctor or Optometrist to wear Glasses for Driving. I don't even have a car but I want to have licence as I need it from time to time to confirm Identity, banks etc.

When I got my licence 30 or whatever years ago I didn't have Glasses.

Then don't bother saying it on the licence. Leave as is. And just wear them as you have been.

I was in the exact same position when I got my licence in 2004. I "legally" didn't need them even with testing but I definitely did from a safety pov.

You shouldn't need a test. I didn't need glasses when applying for my original test.
I was prescribed glasses in the meantime.
On renewal, just ticked the box where it says corrective lenses required. And that's noted now on the licence

    - Just to confirm I ticked the box indicating wears glasses and I don't need to go and get a test or form signed.

I have now got my new licence but I have a question.

When I ordered it showed me a preview which had at number 9. AM,B,W

A preview off the back off licence showed start and stop dates for AM,B,W

My actual licence at number 9 has B,AM (No W)

The back off licence shows the start and stop dates for AM,B,W exactly as the preview I saw online.

I took a picture off the preview online so I'm 100% sure on what I saw.

Surely all this is automated and not somebody ticking boxes so my question is having no W at number 9 correct?

I doubt in my lifetime I'll drive work vehicles but yes it show's on the back I have the W with AM and B.

Anyone a simple explanation? (maybe other's have this mistake if it's a mistake on their licence already)

    Found this.

"What categories appear on the front of the licence permit.
Please note on the front of the licence / permit in Field no. 9 not all categories are noted, only the highest in each sub categories." in a pdf on the rsa.ie website.

Also checked family member licence and W not on front so panic over.

Bit crazy as I was considering posting this back as having an error.
