Water Hardness in my area

The hardness report for my area at https://www.water.ie/water-supply/water-quality/water-hardness/results/summary/ is showing 0 mg/l calcium carbonate (CaC03) and classifies my water as soft.

This is clearly incorrect as my internal plumbing and kettles suffer from significant limescale issues.

How do I go about getting a proper detailed analysis from Irish Water that clearly states the following elements/compounds that are not being reported in the detailed water report :

    CA
    CO3
    HCO3
    Mg

    TIA

Contact water services or the water laboratory in your county and request these results from the water supply servicing your property. Hardness isn't a requirement under the drinking water regulations but they may results from investigative/operational testing.

Thanks for getting in touch and sorry to hear that you’re experiencing limescale. The parameters tested in drinking water are outlined in the European Union Drinking Water Regulations 2014. For more information, please see here. You can find water testing results for your water supply zone here.

Irish Water did not test for hard water levels as hard water has no associated health risks. The Hard Water search function on our website is a new feature and results are added for supply zones as they become available.

If this hard water is causing disruption to your home, you could install a water softening unit and we would recommend that you consult a plumber to ask for advice.

If you would like to get your water privately tested to check your hard water levels, you can find a list of accredited testing facilities at www.inab.ie/Directory-of-Accredited-Bodies/Laboratory-Accreditation/Testing.

    Kind regards,
    Niamh
