Getting vomit smell out of carpet/rug

I'm absolutely losing my **** trying to get the smell out of my carpet since a fcuking eejit puked on it the other night. Any help would be appreciated!

It's on the rug and the carpet beneath as I didn't see it for a few hours. The stain is off now but it feels like the smell as just got worse! I've tried vinegar with hot water and washing up liquid, which got rid of the stain and seemed to remove the smell but it's back with a bang. I think I got it too wet trying to remove the stain and it went through to the carpet. I also couldn't get it totally dry so tried drying it with a hairdryer.... (I know, I was desperate).

This morning I've covered both the rug and carpet in baking soda and I've left the rug to air/dry by two open windows, but I can even smell it now:(

I only bought the rug recently so I'd rather not replace it but if I had to then fair enough. But this is a rented place so replacing the carpet isn't so easy.

Any other tips would be hugely appreciated. I'd get a carpet cleaner in if anyone thinks it would help but I'm not sure what else they could do about the smell.

Look up rug doctor you can hire them, do the whole room while your at it their is nothing easy about cleaning carpets price a professional carpet cleaner as well you might be as cheap letting them at it and get the tool that made the mess too pay.

I got someone (not rug doctor but they have good reviews) who said they'd do the area on the rug and carpet for less than 100 and the person is going to pay so it's not the worst outcome. I'm just hoping it works now.

I would power wash the rug, tbh.
As for the carpet, hopefully the rug doctor will work, but I’d go back with the bicarb again before the rug doctor arrives.

You might try vanish carpet foam. I used it when the three dogs puked and 'other end' all over the carpet. I was gobsmacked at the results. I sprayed it on, used the brush from the dust pan to work it in, then just vacuumed it after 10 mins or something. Smells fab.

I have a professional carpet cleaner coming out to do both now - hopefully by Friday, so fingers crossed on that one. They said if it doesn't get rid of the smell they'll redo it for free. I was out earlier and got the stench right away when I came back to the flat so I just want it sorted ASAP at this point!

I had actually tried that but to no avail. Had also tried baking soda.

Lad came in with a steam cleaner and desanitized and spot cleaned both areas and it's grand now.
