New Covid Tracking App

I see on the news, that over half million people have downloaded the new Covid tracking app. I did so as well.
Some people interviewed on the news, had reservations due to privacy concerns etc,.
To be honest, the way phones work these days, and the number of cameras pointing at us from shops, and other public buildings, the day of privacy is well gone in any case.
What’s the feeling on here? Will many download it?

    Downloaded just now.

Ironically it is probably the safest online app in any phone.

If you don't like this app then don't go online at all.

Downloaded as well.. Laughing at people who have security concerns but are on every social media app.. There is no stopping the internet good and bad but have to educate people on how to use it safely. This app got a very good security rating

Just downloaded here, the more uptake the better it will work.

Is the download not pointless if people don't enter the info re having covid?

Hopefully the 60% + target is reached

    Anything that helps is welcome

I think the wwnews posted above hits the nail on the head:)

Just wondering if you have blutooth turned off? I'm no IT expert, but I think blutooth has to be turned on to detect how close you are to another phone. I could just as easily be wrong!

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

The iPhone 5 and 6 need to be updated to a newer OS. Just go into settings and check updates from there.

    This.
Apple prevent apps being developed for older versions of iOS. This is to cover security issues at iOS updates happen.

The iphone5 may not update to a new enough version to allow the app work.

    Question on the App.

Where do you check for the dates and times the App crosschecks

If yer talking about for close contacts, it’s in the contact tracing part.

If you turn off Bluetooth a notification comes from the app that exposure notifications are inactive. Click on that and it gives the option to see when your app cross checked with other apps.

That makes no sense. There's no using required. Just have it running. Ya can open it and "check in" if ya want, but not mandatory

Thanks for the reminder. I hadn't checked in for a week or more.

My OH got contacted through the app a few weeks ago to say she had been in close contact with a confirmed case. Waited 3 days for them to call with a date and time, during which period we both isolated to be on the safe side. When they did contact, she was given a date and time when it was just her, me and the kids in the house. On that basis and because it was mid-term - she is a teacher, she decided to continue to isolate rather than go for the test. None of her or my work colleagues got any notifications so it must have been a glitch. It also meant I had to work from home for a period when I could have done with being physically at work to deal with some issues. I got no notifications on my app so very unusual - (unless she has a bit on the side that had just left the house before I arrived home I suppose!)

Has anyone else had this happen I wonder? While I fully respect the value of the app, this bad experience has led us to delete it from our phones.

Again, why delete? Seems the app done the job. She was the close contact, not you so you wouldn't get a notification. The only way you would have got it is if your wife went and got the test (like she absolutely should have), was positive and then she uploaded her code. All her close contacts would then be notified.

You didn't need to work from home. Only close contacts are supposed to. If she had the test then you'd know for sure.

Myself and my wife have been isolating since the 3rd, with her having been positive and me negative on two tests. I had a third test a little while ago.
We were in contact with my brother and my parents on the 31st so my brother got a notification as a close contact and he went for a test and it was negative.
Both my parents have the app but their phones didn’t alert them. They restricted their movements.
I think they app is worth it, it doesn’t cost anything, just have it there on the phone.

Getting us out from under covid will take a host of measures including the app.

    Your dead right Brian

But at the moment we are hiding hoping it goes away. Nearly 12 months in and no real pathway to getting rid or living with it. We have been really lucky or just very healthy but have had no effects from covid apart from family travel. Both of us are what they call front line staff. Neither can work from home. The twins finished school one has gone to college and the other has started an apprenticeship. Both worked for the summer. The lad that is in college has had his weekend job closed. So went from 120 a week to 203 on pup. Anyway lads stay safe and if you have vulnerable people make sure you keep them safe too

True. Have it installed is probably a more accurate description. Ya needn't ever open it

    Yea, right.

Young recently married couple “isolating”, don’t be using covid as a cover for your shenanigans.
