Dolby Atmos Question

I have a Sony STRDN1080 and a Onkyo Black Atmos 5.1.2 speaker package (sold the Onkyo receiver & switched to the Sony).

However, i feel that the sound is just underwhelming. I never get that immersive feeling that Atmos and DTS-X are supposed to bring. I certainly don't feel that the sound (for example of a helicopter) is above me etc.

I can't place speakers in the ceiling so i'm limited to upfiring speakers.
Having used both the Onkyo & Sony receivers, i'm prone to thinking that the problem is the speakers.
The room is a standard lounge like in any 3-bed semi or apartment. Have about 3.6mtrs from TV wall to couch wall. Have auto-calibrated multiple times.

Any recommendations if i were to change the speaker package around?

    Hi Wandererz.

Atmos is not on every movie and only on the ones with an Atmos sound track.

So if you are watching a normal movie Atmos will not be decoded or included.

It might be worth upgrading to the Stand alone Atmos speakers as they do produce a more fully range of audio.
Perhaps something like the Eltax Monitor Atm's at £129

or the excellent Dali Alteco 1's priced at £289

Or are you looking to upgrade the whole speaker package?

    Let me know your thoughts.

    Kenny.
