I had to go to a dentist last week the consultation was free which I think is done by them, I had to get a fillin, and scale polish and tablets
So I came back two days later and started the treatment but as she wa doing the scale and polish
She said did I have a prsi number I said I gave it last week with that the other nurse checked came in while ago was getting it done and said I was not covered which seems strange I'm.working over 40 years so when o was paying I said it to the receptionist , I was charged for filling that's fine, prescription €20 , and the scale polish was 50, so I asked her why I wasn't covered she said to me.then and one only then that the application was Queued .which I never heard of but don't know why she didn't tell me.before I got the work done

Can i still claim the scale polish back contribution back ?

    Thanks in Advance

Charge you 20 for a prescription even tho you were getting work done?

    What a joke.

I don’t know how benefits work But are you sure the consultation was for free maybe that took your yearly freebie.
You are allowed an Examination clean and polish Once a year for 15 euro.

Dentists in Ireland are the biggest cowboys.

Sorry - if this gets moved to the dental forum I'll be slated but here's my view.

PRSI or medical cards supposedly covered a checkup. My dentist charged €45 for a checkup and clean, or €30 for just a checkup or €30 for just a clean.
So if I used an "entitlement" I paid €30. If I paid privately, they charged €45.

Well, they changed the rules so that now a checkup and clean is included. Since then, my dentist charged a subsidy of €15 on top of whatever they get from welfare. (subsidised price has also increased, not sure if it's €50 or more)

So, I'm not surprised that they gouged you for an extra €20 for a prescription that probably would have been included if you didn't subsidise the visit with your PRSI.

I think they need to abolish the PRSI and medical card subsidies, and just start a scheme where people who are entitled to these payments just keep the receipt and claim back the amounts because dentists seem to be abusing the scheme through double-charging.
