Redundancy process- tips or recommendations on process

    Hi All,

I hope everybody is doing well.

I have just been informed that my role is at risk of redundancy. I fully understand why and would make my role redundant if the roles were reversed. I have worked for the company for less than 2 years so understand that I am not entitled to statutory redundancy. They have indicated that I may be paid something but will only clarify this at our next meeting. This would be an unexpected plus! I know there is 0% chance of the role being kept on in any capacity, even after consultation.

It's my first time going through redundancy. They were a great company but in one of the worst effected industries unfortunately.

I guess my question is for anybody who knows or has gone through the process are there any questions they wished they had asked in these meetings or things that they had done at the time?

I don't think there will be but just in case.

Thanks in advance for anything. Stay safe

Were the company paying any pension contributions into a DC scheme for you ?...if so make sure you hold onto these, some companies might retain the DC contributions if your there less than 2 years .
Can you get a favorable reference ? Is there any training grant for staff laid off that you might be able to avail of ?

I know it doesn't apply to you but out of curiosity what are the terms of Redundancy ? ie 2 weeks statutory plus how many paid weeks per year of service ?...what sector are you in ?
Just be interested in the terms of redundancy been given to staff at these times

I would ask what if any supports will be made available to you in terms of coping with the redundancy and finding a new job; and how long those supports will be available. They may not have anything formal arranged but no harm to ask.

Other than that I would suggest getting proactive in terms of finding a new job or figuring out what you should do going forward: should you consider a different career if you're concerned about the sector you're currently in etc. There are a number of online courses available at reduced or trial rates due to Covid-19 which you could look at.

Thanks a million for the feedback guys. Will ask about the pension contributions for sure- hadn't thought of that.

@LuasSimon they haven't given me details yet of anything they are offering me. They said they will go into detail on Fri. As I'm entitled to nothing my view is anything is a plus!

My reference will be fine as I've got on well with them.

@Ronivek thanks- I've been approved for an eCollege free course in an area that will supplement my qualification (I'm an accountant) so will also be getting going on that.
