Does anyone know how to apply for a new logbook for a car your not the registered owner of? Want to buy a car from auction but a lot of them have no log book. Tried calling Department of Transport but there not taking calls due to Covid. I don’t think a form RF134 works when your not the registered owner but I could be wrong. Thanks

Something like that, but definitely the P.C. was involved to certify your identity.

If you ring Shannon and explain the situation they will send you out a statutory declaration form to complete. You will need a garage, generally speaking a main dealer to confirm the cars identity and a solicitor or peace commissioner to sign the form also IIRC.

It's a very quick process and I've done it before.

You can pick up a statutory declaration form from your local motor tax office and fill it in - you'll need recent proof of address (within last three months), you'll need a motor dealer to confirm the VIN number of the vehicle and you'll need a commissioner of oaths to sign the form - then bob's your uncle.

I just did it the other day for an ancient motorbike that I'm getting back on the road.

I popped into local Motor Tax office - they gave me one there. That might work for you too.

Nope. I used one of these over the lockdown when Shannon weren't answering the phone or replying to emails, and it got sent back last week saying it was the incorrect form. I had to ring tax office to get the correct one. It seems to have a serial number on it too now.

I’l ring the tax office then or just give them a visit, did it cost anything to have the main dealer and solicitor stamp and sign the form?

I got a local garage who knew me to do it and they didn't charge. The Peace Commissioner generally charges €10 to do it. A solicitor will obviously cost a lot more.
