Yes. You will need two tuners to record two channels simultaneously. A box like a triple tuner combo will do the job nicely. You could watch a third channel while you're at it.

Will Series Link recording work on that box?

And is the Hard drive built in so you rewind live TV?, which isn't possible with external hard drives

    That's a much older box.

The zgemma h7s from World of satellite is probably the best value on the market at the moment.

You can connect a harddrive for recordings and record 2 channels at once but if the channels are both on different satellite frequencies then you won't be able to watch a 3rd satellite channel as it only has 2 sat tuners.

Series link doesn't work in the way you probably expect. You need to use a plugin called autotimer. You can set it up and it will auto record inside the parameters you set, e.g record coronation Street on itv Monday to Friday between 1900-2200

Is the older box able to watch a third if two channels are recording? also someone mentioned the operating system called spark is on the older box. does this make a big differance?

All triple tuner combo boxes work the same. You have 2 satellite tuners and 1 saorview tuner.

You can only record from a maximum of 2 satellite frequencies at once as each will use a different tuner.

If you were recording BBC 1 and sky living then you would only be able to watch either one of those 2 channels or saorview.

The only exception to this would be if you wanted to record two channels from the one frequency (transponder). Then they would only use one tuner and you could use the other to watch what you want. These boxes aren't really designed for that much recoding at once though. Ideally 2 channels at once would be the most you would want to try and record.

Spark is very basic. An os based on enigma2 would be far better like pure2 or openatv.

Basically it is the same as the sky box i have, if im recording two channels at the same time, i have to watch one.

The zgemma has a few add on options, what would u recommend adding on? i have my own external hard drive and would connect hardwire to the internet, any need of the rest? ie Enigma 2 Firmware / Image Options (Flashed Free Of Charge):

Go with the nightly openatv or pure2 image.

Just looking at youtube clips about zgemma h7s. You can put an internal hard drive into it. Can i take the harddrive out of my skybox and instal it in the zgemma ?

There are two Saorview channels and one Saorsat one that doesn't have virginmedia. But then again I use Freesat for almost everything on Virgin that isn't news / current affairs.

You might find that the RTE +1's allow a little wiggle room with recordings, and RTE2 +1 is on a different channel to RTE2.

Any half decent Linux box will allow you to add a USB receiver (China , tenner) as an extra tuner. No combi box comes remotely close in flexibility.

If you take the hard drive out of your sky box the box dies.

I tried it some time ago, on a non sub sky + box, just to stop the whining of the hdd, the box still operated.
