I'd rather see a reform in the absolute joke of a judicial system first.

Life in prison should be hard and a place no one would ever wan to even spend a day in. No luxuries like TV, newspaper or the internet, they need to show that crime does not pay.

I thought that was as a distraction.

They say that prison environment is like going back to kindergarten. The silly things both of them fight for only with prison, it's violent adult criminals.

Just like kindergarten, amenities are allowed to distract the prisoners and keep them easier to control by the prison officers.

It's apparently why drugs are also allowed, to sedate the prisoners.

And the harsh prison thing doesn't really make sense. It sounds like vengeance without anything to back it up. If you look at countries with a low recidivism rate, they tend to have "good" prisons. The Scandinavian countries come to light.

Prison or sentence reform will achieve nothing until the issue of lack of capacity is taken care of.
You can hand out the harshest sentences in the world but if there’s nowhere to lock up the convicts then it’s a waste of time even having the discussion.

If you want yo lower the crime rate then you need to start by lowering inequality in society.

If you care about the victims of crime then you'll want to reduce the number of victims in the first pace. If you enjoy thinking about punishment then it makes sense to start the discussion with prison, after the crimes have taken place.

Non custodial sentences for all crimes unless you're a danger to the public.
    Greater rehabilitation efforts.
    Stronger sentences for repeat offenders.
    Diversion for first time offenders.
    Greater mental heath supports.
Removal of criminal records after a set period of time without re-offence.

Interesting post. Why do you think this?

Prison at the moment is rough, I doubt anyone wants to go back.

Tell me, Chris. If you committed a crime and then had no TV, no newspaper, no interesting post all day everyday for 5 years... how do you think your mental health would be after those 5 years?

Your ideas there are very good for creating absolute monsters with zero attachment to the real world who will end up committing crimes against "Chris_Heilong".

    Stupid post.

A friend of mine taught creative writing in the dochas centre years ago and I went along as a guest one time. I was surprised I knew many of the inmates. Actually my best mans sister was locked up there at the time.

In regards ti Zombies, unless you pull out the teeth no way is any sane man getting a blow job

Well "Queasy Tadpole" I think your "post" sounds stupid to me, The idea of showering criminals with love and understanding after they rape/murder a couple of kids does not sound like a good idea at all, I would not commit a crime so I would expect those that do to be punished harshly, the idea of prison should be something so frightening it prevents someone from doing the crime in the first place and I think less criminals would mean less people going to jail.

Regular scheduled beatings to within an inch of their lives.

We're in the EU no so there is zero chance of this happening.

It'll have to be within centimetres.

Threads like these always bring out the types who love violent revenge fantasies. Chain gangs, floggings, the death penalty, no access to things like TV, books and radio. Something very dweebish about them. Most of them wouldn’t say boo to a cat, never mind be the sort to become an executioner.

I have to agree. Harsh punishments may be justified if the end is proportionate to the means. But the second you start enjoying the suffering of another person and indulging your own sadism you lower yourself to the level of the criminals.

Justice should be calm and measured, rather than based on appeal to emotion. Though I'd argue that cuts both ways.

I suppose its more sentencing reform I'd like. Say 10 convictions, then you get a mandatory 2 years. Rack up 20 convictions, mandatory 5 years.
Anymore (like those who have 50 plus), that's it your a dead loss to society, life.
